Welcome to
the Southside VA SHRM, Chapter 587!
It is 2010 and we are going to do our best to have the best year ever!! On our website you will find the meeting schedule, special programs locally and nationally along with other "key" information for the chapter. We invite everyone involved with HR duties to attend our meetings. Our membership information is also attached on this site. Our goal is to bring new HR information and laws to the membership and community. We are very proud of our different seminars offered throughout the year and in depth topics/discussions at the monthly meetings. As an HR professional, you will find our local organization to be friendly, fun and rewarding! Many of our local members are also National SHRM members. SHRM offers a great avenue for HR professionals to obtain endless information related to our profession. Southside VA SHRM has received the Superior Merit Award from the National SHRM for the past several years. This award is attributed to our participation in education of the local youth as well as the displaced workers in our area. SVSHRM is also very proud of the scholarships we offer, growing professionals at the local colleges. Other areas that have led us to this award are our Workers Compensation Seminar; focus on recruiting and retention of members, and education of HR legal issues. We also received Membership Superstar award in 2008 for having a 10%+ growth in National SHRM membership. We are very excited about the new and exciting items on our agenda for 2010. We have a great celebration luncheon scheduled for Administrative Professionals Day on April 21st; everyone is invited so watch for details. We plan to offer even more HRCI certified programs this year. We are also very excited, to hopefully once again, have the SPHR/PHR certification preparation course offered through DCC at RCATT. This course plans to start in the fall of 2010 and is very affordable. David Siler, the instructor has a 90% pass rate for those who have taken the training course under his instruction. Those who took the course, in Danville, in the fall of 2009 said David did a great job last year and they enjoyed his lectures. Our meetings are held typically the last Wednesday of the month. Please email Cathy Conner at cconner@dcc.vccs.edu for information on membership. We invite anyone involved in Human Resources to attend and join our meetings. We hope to see you at our next meeting and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Felicia Rivens King President 434.799.5241 or rivens@ci.danville.va.us
